3.1 First article. When specified in the contract or purchase order (see
6.2.1), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 4.4 and
6.3).
3.2 Design. The punching machine shall be designed to accurately produce
identical sheet metal parts from a template using punches and dies mounted in
the machine's turret. The operator shall select the desired punch station,
and actuate the machine for punching. Means shall be provided for accurately
locating holes and cutouts on the workpiece. The machine shall be new (not a
prototype) and one of the manufacturers' current production models capable of
punching various shapes and sizes in sheet metal in accordance with the
requirements herein. The machine design and construction shall include all
components, parts, and features necessary to meet the performance requirements
specified herein. All parts subject to wear, breakage, or distortion shall be
accessible for adjustment, replacement, or repair.
3.2.1 Design, construction, and system of measurement. Unless
